Home Movies & TV The Dark Knight - A Resurrection of Batman

There are times when the big heads in Hollywood do deserve a pat on the back, and the magnificent performance of The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, is one of those rare red carpet treatment moments.

In this action pack film, Bale assumed the role as Bruce Willis, a multimillion heir, whose unquenchable search for justice propelled him to search and invest in equipment and bat suites  to  protect Gotham city.  Determined to keep the streets clean, Bruce Willis, or rather Batman contends with the underground world to relentlessly sift the bad guys out.

It is with such monumental presence from the Batman, that The Joker appears to battle and prove him wrong both philosophically and hero wise.  With an awkwardly hung smile, that hides  the true intent of a  demented mind, The Joker, teams up with the mafia to get the support he needs to conquer Gotham City.  The film is an adrenaline producer, that is bound to hold the viewer with its climatic scenes that make any aorta grow in size.

Dark Knight - Batman

The Dark knight defies the traditional concept of knighthood, with Batman's new motorbike that rides unto scene leaving any F1 car looking like a toy for children. It is during his chase with The Joker, using his rather new technology that the viewer is pummeled to sit, hope and watch.

A few characters however were missing from the film to have made it  the only action movie worth seeing in 2008. Robin(Chris O'Donnel),  for example which appeared in the film Batman & Robin would have been a fine team mate to help batman in his mission for justice, but without the circus suite though. Two other characters missing in action from the 1997 film, were Poison Ivy( Uma Thurman ) and Mr Freeze(Arnold Schwarzenegger ).

Instead of joining up with the mafia the director could have considered The Joker establishing social ties with a few of Batman's long pledged enemies, such as: The Penguin, Two face and The Riddler.  Whether the Penguin / Oswald Cobblepot (Danny DeVito) or  Catwoman / Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer) in Batman returns, would have added an extra puzzle and tension in the most recent Batman film.

Batman films are overall interesting, but The Dark Knight was a rebirth from a  saturated script that was slowing waning in popularity in past releases of the Batman.

The story line in most Batman films  is practically the same: Batman, an undercover billion heir that was traumatized with the death of his parents,  decides to make justice and equality his prime objectives, as he leads a double life as the dark knight by night and Bruce Wayne by day. Creative special effects, less redundancy, and more content were the real elements that were needed to make Batman the phenomenon that it was when it first entered the theater  as  Batman in 1989.  The Dark night was sensational, no doubt about that, but for any future releases, the storyline will have to be completely different to really hold an audience like it did under Nolan's direction.

Batman costumes continue to be a popular choice.   We can only hope that they continue to make more Batman movies.
